As of recent I have been exposed to information regarding the difficulty to obtain clean drinking water in developing nations in South America and Africa. 783 million people do not have access to clean and safe water according to TheWaterProject.org. Of those 783 million, 37% of these people live in Sub-Saharan Africa. That is 289,710,000 people in Sub-Saharan Africa alone without access to clean drinking water. Another statistic says that 1 and 5 deaths worldwide are due to lack of clean drinking water, applying this statistic, just under 58 million people will die in Africa ALONE due to lack of clean drinking water.

What bothered me most is that I can simply walk to my fridge in a few moments time and grab a bottle of water, like others in this country. In the developing world, women and children spend a combined 125 million hours each day collecting drinking water that might not even be clean enough to drink. I knew when I uncovered these statistics, I had to do something.

In order to help this crisis, I am going to back my words and ‘Be the Wave,’ and you can ‘Be the Wave' too. There are TWO ways that you can help:

  1. I have started a fundraiser that people can donate to help the cause, people can donate whatever they see fit. Also, the fundraiser is run straight through water.org, so there is no question that the money is going to the cause.

  2. In addition, 20% of any and all purchases of “Be the Wave, Don’t Ride the Wave” apparel,(T-Shirts, Long Sleeves, Crewnecks and Hoodies) will be donated directly to the fundraiser on water.org. (Purchases can be made at http://onlinestore.keepreachingup.com/t/waterorg-x-be-the-wave)

The current goal is set at $10,000. I know that may seem high, but if you can help me reach this goal we can change the lives of 400 people. On average, families in developing nations have about 5.1 children per woman, so the average family size is about 7.1, including their mother and father. In reality, helping these 400 people get clean water will affect the lives of over 2,840 people.
