Let me teach you about the water quality issue in India. There are geographical, economic, and cultural factors that contribute to this problem. The geography contributes to this issue because at times there may be floods that occur. The floods then carry things from the land into the water. The chemicals from these objects cause for the water to become polluted. Another issue with the geography is that some of the rivers meet some of the sewage canals, which means that the waste from them gets into the rivers. This is the case with you the Ganges river. The economy is a part of the water quality problem in India because it is a large reason why people are unable to get clean water. The government is struggling to have enough money to have enough water treatment systems in order to clean the water. They also have companies like Coca Cola that are using up a lot of the clean water, which means that others in the area are not able to use it. Some parts of the culture in India contribute to the water quality problem. In India there are some Hindu holidays celebrated in which people bring idols of deities to the rivers as a manner of celebrating. People celebrate this way during a holiday that is called Ganesh Chaturthi. The idols are created of materials that are harmful to the water. This is not only a problem for humans, but also for the birds that have begun to keep away from the rivers like the Ganges. There are people in India who are working to fight this issue. One woman that I learned about did that by bottling clean water so that she could deliver it to others. This helped to make sure that those in her community also have clean water. This is very important because it means that people will not get sick from drinking water that is dirty. Even though we are very far away from India there is something that you could do in order to help combat the issue of water quality in India as well. One of these things is to learn more about the issue and teach others about it so that they can become more aware of it. Another thing that you can do is donate to our fundraising campaign, which will use the money to create ways of getting clean and safe water to people in India who do not already have this. Hop to it and donate money to our water campaign!
