I suspect that John Constantine would have some pretty choice words to say about being used as a fundraising mascot. (Of course, I also suspect he'd drop his last fiver in the kitty when no one was looking, and make sure that the nearest thug/corrupt politician felt, let's say, "compelled" to contribute his take.)
I've been somewhere between livid, bitter, and vanilla sad that Hellblazer has been cancelled and that the final issue will arrive just in time for my birthday.
The thing is, I am incredibly fortunate:
I have lived to see this birthday.
I attended school.
I have leisure time to read comic books and get emotionally invested in their characters (and grumble about their endings on the internet).
Millions of people don't have the luxury of being disappointed about the fate of a fictional character.
Lack of access to safe drinking water is only one barrier to health and opportunity, but it's one water.org can begin to address.
More people die each year from unsafe water than from wars.
Many who survive, particularly women and girls, will be forced to devote most of their days to obtaining clean water, foreclosing opportunities for education or training that might lift families and communities out of poverty and unsafe living conditions.
Send an email inviting everyone you know to give water. Remember to share your story and why you are passionate about raising funds to change lives with safe water.
Post one of these graphics on Facebook or Twitter. Tag Water.org so we can see what you’re up to and cheer you on.
Not ready to donate? You can still make a big impact by sharing one of these.
