JA Water BDAY Campaign

Donate

This year I am “donating” my birthday and requesting that in lieu of gifts, those who are willing make a donation to water.org. Access to safe, clean water allows for improved health, improved sanitation, stronger communities, better opportunities for child and female education, gender equity and empowerment of females, and a better sense of human dignity.
Here are just a few reasons why you should consider taking part in this fundraiser:

• Women and children spend 140 million hours a day collecting water (http://water.org/water-crisis/water-facts/women/) • Every minute a child dies from a water-related disease, and diarrhea remains the fourth leading cause of death of children under the age of five worldwide. The problem is enormous but solutions are available. Kids with access to safe water are healthier and can attend school regularly (http://water.org/water-crisis/water-facts/children/) • More people have a mobile phone than a toilet (http://water.org/water-crisis/water-facts/economics/) • For every $25 that we raise, Water.org can give someone access to safe water (http://give.water.org/fundraiser/create/). • For every $1 spent on water and sanitation there is a $4 economic return (http://water.org/water-crisis/water-facts/economics/). • “Water Credit” is a progressive microcredit program developed by water.org that empowers individuals in the developing world to finance safe and sustainable safe water and sanitation programs while also taking part in its development and operation (http://water.org/water-crisis/water-facts/economics/)

Water.org is an NGO that is a trusted, successful, and transparent leader in providing access to safe water sources to those in need in the developing world.
In addition to taking part in a great cause, I am hoping to show my high school students that there are creative and effective ways to get involved and make a positive contribution to global issues. The goal of $500 dollars will provide safe water to 20 people – approximately the equivalent of a mid-level class size where I teach. Please consider taking part in my birthday this year. Your small donation can make a big difference in helping someone secure a vital lifeline. Thank you!!!
