Friends, we meet again. In just one short month, I will be 23. That's great and all, but you and I both know that really means it's time to raise some money for Water.org.
Water is important. I chug it on the daily. When I started fundraising, 780 million people lacked access to clean water. Today, that number has shrunk to 750 million. It's still too big. Not having clean water means too many people die of preventable diseases. It means too many women spend their time retrieving water instead of working. It means too many children lose educational opportunities. It sucks.
Over the past 3 years, we have raised $837 together, giving 33 people access to clean water. Those are 33 real, living, breathing people. Looking ahead to this year, we can and will cross the $1,000 mark, raising our total to 40 people helped.
As usual, I will be donating 50 cents for every happy birthday post on my Facebook on October 25th. All you lazy slugs can just wish me well, and money goes to charity. It could not be easier.
BUT, for those of you with a little more ambition, you can engage in the social media campaign. You have friends. Your friends have friends. Imagine how many people could hear about this fundraiser in one month. You guys are little social media starlets, so get the word out.
ANOTHER BUT, you can help immediately. You can donate to this fundraiser to help us reach this year's goal. It's a small goal. We can pass it by a mile, by ten miles, by a million miles. If you do donate, you can use your real name. However, I encourage you to come up with as extravagant a fake name as you possibly can. The money still goes to the same place, so why not be hilarious when donating it?
Anyway, stay aware. This planet is cool. Let's help everyone enjoy it.
