On July 25th I will be running Europe’s highest mountain marathon, crossing two valleys and two mountains passes in the Swiss Alps! I have never run a marathon before, let alone one this challenging. This will be undoubtably the toughest physical challenge of my life so far! So why waste a opportunity to do some good in the process!

I will be raising money for water.org, for anyone that’s not aware water.org are a charity that provide clean water and sanitation to developing countries. In some of these countries, generally the women and children must walk long distances daily to provide water for their family that is still sometimes unsafe to drink. Some of these women/men/children loose the ability to either work or gain an education in the process. The organization not only drills wells for villages and installs sanitation and taps to homes, but it educates the communities that are benefactors of this work on good sanitation in an attempt to prevent future problems.

With a passion for business I appreciate a charity that understands good financial practices, the organization scores top marks through institutions that rank charities based on their financial performance, accountability and transparency. Further to this they also introduced water credit, this is a system that provides micro loans to people that cannot afford the basics of water or sanitation, 90% of these micro loans are issued to women, who can now use the time saved walking for water to work or receive an education.

Not only can this dramatically change the future of the mother or child who can now work or study it is also reducing the charities dependency on donations and makes the projects more sustainable long term.
