Every year for Christmas we get some great gifts, some good gifts, some gifts we didn't need, some gifts we will never use, some chocolate or candy we feel guilty about stuffing our faces with and after it's all said and done we reflect back on the time and money we spent and wonder if it was all worth it.
This year, stop and give thought to just two simple things.... Every hour you spend shopping for gifts we all don't really need, think to yourself... there are literally millions of children and women at this very moment spending 2-3 times more time and effort every day just walking to collect enough water to cook, clean, and drink for that one day alone, and will do it again, the next day and the next for the rest of their lives.
Two... when you take that warm satisfying sip of hot chocolate or coffee that seems to make your day that much better... take a good look at it, and think to yourself... that is the colour of the water millions of people have no other option but to drink on a daily basis. The same water that kills a child every 90 seconds of everyday because it's all they have access too.
water.org helps those who need it in a very unique way. Villagers have access to microloans from banks to have the water they walk hours for brought to their home. These loans come at a very high interest rate and suck up the majority of house hold income making it impossible for them to escape poverty, buy food, or send their children to school. water.org provides the local banks access to funds without these hefty premiums making loans more affordable and freeing up other wise inaccessible funds.
Christmas is suppose to be about kindness, generosity and bringing people together. This year, take a step outside of our first world bubble and extend that Christmas spirit to those who need it more than we ever will.
I'm setting a goal to raise $10,000 before December 25th. It's a huge goal and I've never raised money before, all I can do is hope everyone shares and messages all those they can for a simple $25 donation.
I'm asking my friends and family to donate whatever they would normally spend on gifts for me to this fundraiser through water.org and anyone who would like me to donate my money instead of buying them a gift I will do the same.
Happy Holidays
