Last year we brought awareness to bullying, this year it is the Water Crisis. As we begin our studies in Africa we have also decided to tie it into a cause. The students at IS 143 will develop an understanding for their direct involvement in world problems. It is important for them to be aware of the differences that they alone can make by hard work.
The Water Crisis is not just limited to Africa- it actually spans across the globe even in first world nations like the United States. 3.4 million people die every year because they do not have safe drinking water. Every 20 seconds a child dies because of water related diseases. Americans use more water for a five minute shower then an average person does all day in a developing country.
For every $25.00 that the students raise, they are able to save a life. This person could receive safe drinking water for his/her entire life.
