The Bagnell Brain center specializes in therapy for brain injury patients as well as autism. Mia will have an opportunity to have a blend of custom therapies such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, dolphin therapy, and other nuero based therapies such as interactive metronome and functional nuerology therapies. Patients who complete this custom therapy have seen improvements in speech, cognitive and physical abilities.
It’s been about two years since Mia became disabled at the age of 2 and she has come an incredibly long way but we still have a ways to go! Please donate to the cause to help Mia to attend the therapy she needs.
Read the back story to Mias Journey:
Memorial Day 2019 Mia experienced a horrible allergic reaction to goats milk that caused her to go into cardiac arrest for 20 minutes. She was down without oxygen or blood flow to her brain and as a result suffered severe brain damage to about 75% of her brain. At the age of two, her life was nearly cut short but her mom fought tooth and nail and never lost faith that she would make a recovery. Her mom was forced to completely stop working for over a year and half while Mia was hospitalized and was forced to split up her children and rest of her family to travel to Maryland for Mias care. The doctors made no promises and initially said Mia would be just a vegetable but God had other plans. Mia is now making progress and went from being on over 14 medications to being on 3. She went from being in a coma and not being able to move anything to being able to eat and drink by mouth, seeing partially, to sitting up independently and trying to talk. Mia is a fighter and will require our support for the remainder of her life. In order to get her back to as close to where she was before her allergic reaction, she will need lots of ongoing therapy. Her mom is now forced to work a very limited schedule due to Mias needs. Mia requires 24/7 care and in order for the family to stay afloat her mom is working hard to get back to work to try and pay for her ongoing medical needs and therapies and regular bills. This cause is to try and raise money to pay for a much needed intensive therapy program that insurance doesn’t cover.
